Department
of Geography
The
chair of Geography, near the Faculty of History and
Philology has been established in the academic year
of 1959 - 1960. In this chair, from 1971 to 1978 there
has been a scientific nucleus composed of three employees.
In 1978 this nucleus passed under the dependence of
Science Academy and was named "The sector of geographical
studies" by the Institute of Hydrometeorology.
In
1992, the Chair of Geography was named Department of
Geography and it consisted of the Chair of Physical
Geography and Economical Geography. In October 1993
the Department of Geography was annexed leaving its
place to the two above-mentioned Chairs, whereas from
1994 the Department of Geography consisted of the section
of Physical Geography and that of Human Geography.
The
Department of Geography supplies with diploma specialists
of geography and teachers of geography. Specialists
of geography have possibilities of being employed in
the institutions dealing with environmental issues,
territory regulation and space planning; in the offices
of city planning, cadastre, tourist agencies, as specialists
in the bodies of local and central government etc. Those
graduated as teachers teach mainly the subject of geography
in the high schools.
Didactic
Basis
The
presentation of knowledge of the disciplines foreseen
in the curriculum and their absorption by the students
relies on the texts and basic literature that is given
in the program of each subject; in speeches, theoretical
seminars, exercises, practical works, in-field expeditions
and pedagogical practices; laboratory of cartography
SIG, Internet centre, library of Faculty etc.
The
rendering of Educational obligations from the students
is done through course duties, exams, laboratory and
practical works, course themes and annual themes. In
the end of each cycle, some exams are given in a written
form, orally or in a combined way, while some others
are given through colloquiums. Ways of assessment are
announced to the student at the beginning of each cycle.
